A new record for Konstantin Chaykin’s artwork: A Mad Horological Party successfully sold at the Ineichen auction for CHF 90,000
As part of the December Session I: Independents & Modern Watches: Live Auction held by Ineichen in Zurich, Konstantin Chaykin’s painting A Mad Horological Party set a new personal record, selling for CHF 90,000 (USD 113,400).

The canvas became one of the notable highlights of the sale, uniting high watchmaking and contemporary painting within a single narrative. This major work, created in 2025, was conceived by Konstantin Chaykin as a visual metaphor for the development of the highly complicated White Rabbit wristwatch, inspired by Lewis Carroll’s famous tale Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. In the painting, Chaykin depicts himself at his workbench at the moment of assembling the watch, surrounded by fantastical mechanical characters whose forms clearly evoke Alice, the Hatter, the Dormouse and the March Hare.

What makes this work special is that it belongs to the now exceedingly rare genre of allegorical self-portrait: the master places himself in a real working environment, while around him unfolds a “horological” universe of his own creation. In this way, A Mad Horological Party cements Konstantin Chaykin’s status not only as an independent watchmaker, but also as an artist shaping his own distinctive visual mythology.
