Although he put aside the idea of becoming a professional artist, Chaykin still picks up a pencil or an oil paintbrush whenever he has free time. The motifs of his artworks are time and the components that make up a watch. He personifies watch parts or discovers the aesthetic elements hidden within watch components, expressing them through painting. Sometimes, the artist places himself into the canvas to capture the moment when time and watches are born.
Konstantin Chaykin has created an original genre called "Horological Art." His artworks are created based on principles of drafting and engineering. By using a compass and a ruler, he incorporates mechanical precision and an engineering approach into his pieces.
Last year, in a news article about the high-complication watch 'White Rabbit', we introduced Konstantin Chaykin's painting 'A Mad Horological Party'. (Link) This painting, which was exhibited during Dubai Watch Week last year, can now be seen in South Korea as well. This is because Konstantin Chaykin is participating as an artist at 'ART OnO', held at SETEC in Seoul from April 3rd to 5th.
Klocka attended the ART OnO preview on April 2nd and viewed several of Konstantin Chaykin's works. In this exhibition, Konstantin Chaykin presents a variety of painting series. The booth featured 'A Mad Horological Party', as well as the 'Witches of Time Magic' series inspired by Alice in Wonderland, and various 'Horological Archetypes' series that reveal different facets of time. In particular, pieces such as 'Moirai', 'Attachment', and 'From A to Z' are being unveiled for the first time in Seoul.
Meanwhile, Konstantin Chaykin's watches were also displayed in the center of the exhibition hall, demonstrating how perfectly watches and paintings can interlock like gears. This exhibition runs from April 3rd to April 5th at SETEC in Seoul. We highly recommend that enthusiasts interested in watches and fine art visit during this period. While Chaykin's watches can be seen in boutiques at any time, there is no telling when you will have the chance to see his paintings again.
