Al-Muqaddasi
In October, 2010 the clock manufacture of Konstantin Chaykin completed the project of designing miniature Arabic astronomical clock “Al-Mukaddas”. It took 18 months to accomplish the timepiece. It is a table clock in the oriental mosaic case featuring the tourbillon, the Muslim calendar and the indicator of lunar phases.
He is known to connoisseurs of watchmaking for such works as the “Resurrection” astronomical clock with a perpetual Easter calendar, the “Mystery” mystery clock with 1000 stones, the “Decalogue” wristwatch with an indication of Jewish helekim and regaim, and many other works from the world of Haute Horlogerie. The new watches of the eminent master are not inferior to his famous creations either in complexity or luxury...
Production
The Al-Muqaddasi table clock is equipped with a complex movement with tourbillon, Islamic lunar calendar and moonphase. Konstantin Chaykin’s clocks has something that is almost impossible to find in other table clocks – a fine finishing of all parts, the quality of which is comparable to the finishing of the parts of a luxury wristwatch. This is why the Konstantin Chaykin table clock takes a lot of time to make and the watchmakers at the manufactory go to great lengths.
Back view
The most important thing about a luxury table clock is that it is finely crafted, no matter whichever way you look at it. Even the back of the Al-Muqaddasi clock shows the same quality of finishing as the dial side, with extremely intricate engraved Islamic motifs. Exceptional timepieces of such quality are true gems in private and museum collections, becoming family heirlooms and the pride of their owners.
Movement
The caliber TAHJ.02-1 of the Al-Muqaddasi clock was developed by Konstantin Chaykin. The movement is made entirely in the Konstantin Chaykin Manufacture according to the standards of haute horlogerie. Complicated movement has tourbillon, moonphase, and indication of date, weekday and month according to Islamic lunar calendar Hijra. This complication is a patented invention of Konstantin Chaykin. Traditional craftsmanship techniques are used to refine the components: fine straight and circular grinding, hand-polished bevels, engravings, polished screw heads, ball polishing of the pivots, nickel plating and gold plating. A special feature of the movement is the design of the “Alpha” tourbillon cage, a characteristic feature of Konstantin Chaykin’s table clocks with tourbillon.

Case
At first glance, the ornate workmanship of the silver case of the Al-Muqaddasi clock is reminiscent of the rich architectural heritage of Central Asia. The design also features the theme of whirls, which seems particularly relevant for a clock with a tourbillon – this term means “whirlwind” in French. The case of this clock is ornately decorated on all sides - it is a true masterpiece of decorative art.
