Tourbillon 55

Precision and attractiveness

Konstantin Chaykin’s table clocks are not simply indoor timepieces, but sophisticated, carefully crafted masterpieces that are transformed using a variety of decorative techniques into marvelous cinematic works of art that are an exceptional decoration for any exquisite interior. They are not impersonal mass-produced items. Each of Konstantin Chaykin’s table clocks is a stage in his creative biography. Each has its own character, a reason for its creation, its history, a unique complicated movement, its own series of inventions and a warm, emotional aura of creativity that opens up to the sensitive mind.

The Tourbillon 55 clock has three inspirations. The first is the tourbillons of the great Abraham-Louis Breguet, who invented this complication in 1795 as a technical aid to largely eliminate the negative effects of gravity on the accuracy of mechanical timepieces. The second is the legendary, one might even say mythical, pocket chronometer with tourbillon, invented in 1829 by the Russian master watchmaker Ivan Tolstoy. The third is Konstantin Chaykin’s Foundation Tourbillon Clock, with which the history of his manufactory begins.

Production

The Tourbillon 55 table clock is equipped with a complex movement with tourbillon. Konstantin Chaykin’s clocks has something that is almost impossible to find in other table clocks – a fine finishing of all parts, the quality of which is comparable to the finishing of the parts of a luxury wristwatch. This is why the Konstantin Chaykin table clock takes a lot of time to make and the watchmakers at the manufactory go to great lengths. It is a real pleasure to watch such a masterpiece being assembled.

Back view

The most important thing about a luxury table clock is that it’s finely crafted, no matter whichever way you look at it. Even the back view of the Tourbillon 55 Calendar clock shows the same quality of finishing as the dial side. In addition, the back caliber plate has a strictly vertical architecture with four cabochons in a row mounted on screws, giving the clock a particularly refined character.

Movement

The caliber T.01-0 of the Tourbillon 55 table clock was developed by Konstantin Chaykin. The movement is made entirely in the Konstantin Chaykin Manufacture according to the standards of haute horlogerie. Traditional craftsmanship techniques are used to refine the components: fine straight and circular grinding, hand-polished bevels, engravings, polished screw heads, ball polishing of the pivots, nickel plating and gold plating. A special feature of the movement is the design of the “Alpha” tourbillon cage, a characteristic feature of Konstantin Chaykin’s table clocks with tourbillon, as well as four gold-plated chatons of different sizes, which are attached with screws.

Case

When designing a clock in the luxury category, the watchmaker must take into account both the high level of finish and the style, carefully selecting the material for the case and leaving no detail, however small, unnoticed. For discerning connoisseurs, Konstantin Chaykin offers a variety of clock cases, including those made of precious wood, with ornate carvings or Florentine stone mosaics. This makes it possible to create a unique, tailor-made objet d’art.
