One-of-a-Kind Matroskin –
Always Smiling!
Konstantin Chaykin had long been considering the idea of creating a Wristmon in the image of a cat – a character that appears in the zodiac calendar of several Eastern countries. In the Vietnamese tradition, the Cat occupies the place assigned to the Rabbit. The master created the first sketch of the future “cat Wristmon,” titled Kitty Sketch, back in 2020.
In 2025, a landmark collaboration began between the Konstantin Chaykin Manufacture and the Soyuzmultfilm animation studio. It was within this project that the idea of the cat Wristmon finally took shape. The watch has been released as a limited edition of 90 pieces, marking the 90th anniversary of the legendary studio. Thus Matroskin – one of the most recognizable characters created by Eduard Uspensky – was brought to the wrist by Konstantin Chaykin.
Every Detail
Matters
The new Wristmon remains remarkably close to the beloved character, and anyone who has seen the animated films will immediately recognize the resemblance. The signature Joker-indication module is ideally suited to a “cat face.”
The hour and minute indicators, with their vivid green irises, become large expressive eyes, while the moonphase indicator forms the central element of the smiling mouth.
One of the key features of the new model is the guilloché “whiskers.” For the first time in the Wristmons collection, the guilloché decoration extends beyond the dial and continues onto the bezel. The shape of the steel case also follows the spirit of this animal-inspired watch: the upper lugs are stylized as Matroskin’s cat ears. A single crown makes the silhouette cleaner and more natural.
Matroskin also has his forelock and signature stripes. The master chose not a classic monochrome leather strap, but a striped one – and here it is difficult to imagine any other choice.
The Heart of Matroskin
The fundamental element in the architecture of the K.18-27 caliber is the signature Joker-indication module in a new modification.
Thanks to this module, there is no longer any need for a second crown with a push-piece or a separate corrector for the moonphase. All functions are now adjusted through a single crown, making the watch significantly more comfortable to use.
The movement is finished according to all the canons of haute horlogerie. Every component is finished entirely by hand.
The plates and bridges are decorated with pearled, textured and circular graining. The chamfers are bevelled and polished, as are the recesses for screws and pins.
Caliber
The base caliber chosen for the watch is the G200 movement from the Swiss manufacture La Joux-Perret, already well known to connoisseurs of the Wristmons collection.
This high-grade automatic movement, with a 68-hour power reserve, is supplied in a version modified according to a design created by the Konstantin Chaykin Manufacture.
at Its Best
The balance bridge, with its broad shoulders, is supported on both sides, giving it greater rigidity. Rate adjustment is carried out using micro-regulating eccentrics on the rim. The stated precision of the movement is –10/+10 seconds per day.
Winding
The automatic-winding bridge is impeccably decorated in classical finishing techniques, with a large Côtes de Genève pattern taking the leading role. The caliber offers an impressive 68-hour power reserve, which at the very least allows the watch to run through the entire weekend without winding.
The edges are carefully bevelled and polished by hand along the outer contour and inner cut-outs. Another important decorative feature is the name and logo of the Manufacture, applied as gilded engraving.
of Color
Achieving such exceptional quality and depth on the complicated dial components requires a great deal of time. The application of the finest layers of lacquer demands the highest level of skill.
The pad-printing process for a single “eye” takes around 20 hours. Up to 25 layers of lacquer are applied to the base one after another, after which the component is dried in a special oven. The Manufacture rightly considers this level of execution in the dial elements a particular source of pride.
A Feline
Dial
Behind the apparent simplicity lies considerable technical and engineering complexity: the dial of the watch consists of 15 components. Thanks to ruthenium galvanic coating, it acquires its characteristic graphite color. The whiskers are made using the traditional guilloché technique and are additionally rhodium-plated.
The texture of the “fur” is conveyed through abrasive blasting. Hidden in Matroskin’s forelock is another important detail: the Manufacture’s logo becomes an organic part of it.
