SC02C: Tested in Outer Space
The Konstantin Chaykin Manufacture presents the SC02C mechanical chronograph – a limited edition of 28 pieces based on watches developed for Russian cosmonauts and tested in outer space.

Since 2018, the Manufacture has been working with Roscosmos on a research program to create mechanical watches for extravehicular activity. Over this period, experimental prototypes have taken part in four spacewalks. The most recent took place on May 27, 2026, when Sergey Kud-Sverchkov and Sergey Mikaev spent 6 hours and 6 minutes outside the station with new-generation chronographs secured over their Orlan-MKS spacesuits.

The SC02C retains the full range of technical solutions developed for a professional cosmonaut’s instrument, while being adapted for everyday wear. Its 44 mm stainless-steel case is designed to operate in high vacuum, a special sapphire crystal mounting system prevents the crystal from being forced out under extreme loads and pressure changes, and an antimagnetic cover protects the movement from magnetic fields. A rotating 12-hour bezel allows extended intervals to be timed independently of the chronograph.

The hand-wound K.20-5 caliber is based on the proven Poljot 3133. Its construction was extensively modified with the addition of 60 components manufactured in-house, including a 12-hour chronograph counter mechanism, a balance with micrometric adjustment via weights, a stop-seconds function, and a damping ring Although hidden from view, the movement is finished to the highest standards of haute horlogerie, with its components receiving meticulous hand-finishing.

The research program will continue beyond the launch: chronograph owners will be able to wear their watches in a wide range of conditions and share feedback with the Manufacture. The resulting data will contribute to the next stage of the project’s development.
